DMV ARTISTS TO WATCH: A new flavor of music.

DC, Maryland, Virginia, known as the “DMV”, is home to many talented artists. We can claim some of the greatest lyricists of our time; including Wale, Goldlink, Rico Nasty, and ShyGlizzy just to name a few. What’s unique about their music is that it stems from honest and real realities, that are constantly influencing new and emerging artists. With so much potential surrounding the nation’s capital, there are always new artists popping up from this area. We have some of the greatest MC’S, singer/songwriters, producers coming up. These are just a few artists that continue to break barriers that put the DMV on the map.



Deetranada has been on the music scene for two years, and lyrically she is unmatched. Rooted from the streets of Baltimore, her flow is steady, lyrics raw, and everything about her is authentic. She recently released a new video for her single, “VS. EVERYBODY” ft. Gucci Rock, where she speaks about the trials and tribulations she’s faced; friends becoming enemies, how she’s overcome personal struggles, and how she continues to grind towards success. 


Ayotemi- Hurricanes

Ayotemimusic has a holistic approach to music. From Laurel, Maryland he creates vibrations that lift you higher into a place of soul and fullness. His approach to music is balanced, that allows his listeners to understand the universal ideologies he has through his music. Ayotemimusic sound is refreshing, soulful, and calming. He released his first gospel song, “Stretch Your Hands” last Friday. This is a new project for him and he’s definitely a soul artist on the rise.


Kassim - Kenny Powers ft. Michon

KASSIM is the new wave of hip-hop. This DMV native artist uses fashion and music to create a vibe that you won’t want to get away from. His music took off when he joined the DMV Hip-Hop Orchestra, The Shmoods, where he used jazz samples and music to create a fluid sound. The PG County native touches on real and honest topics that everyone can relate to. He recently released his latest single, “Anti-Imposter Syndrome”, in April and his music continues to move the music industry forward.


ODD MOJO: Sunday, Monday

Odd Mojo has old-school rhythms and steady vibes that bring you closer to the prime of hip-hop. Capitol Heights, Maryland created a psychedelic MC that used her tough outlook to create a new genre in music. Her lyricism highlights how the DMV created her tough skin, and work even harder in an industry that isn’t open to anything but the best. She recently released a new song, “Kale”, that brings you back to the ’90s.
