“buzz cut (feat. MisterWives) – Single Review
lovelytheband has shared a new version of single “buzz cut” that features fellow indie-pop group MisterWives.
The original version is featured on the group’s sophomore album conversations with myself about you, released last summer.
“‘buzz cut’ is about having an instant connection with someone,” says frontman Mitchy Collins. “You don’t need or care to know anything about each other’s past. It’s all about giving yourself up to the moment.”
The song tells the story of one summer – “the summer of the buzz cut,” as the group sings – with someone special who doesn’t stick around. “Sometimes you don’t know what you got // Sometimes you don’t believe it // Sometimes you don’t know what you got // until you see her leaving,” Collins sings over electric guitar riffs.
“‘buzz cut’ is definitely one of our favorite tracks on the album,” the group told 1883 magazine. “We wanted to create a song that felt good and reminded us of the alternative music from the early 2000’s that we fell in love with”
The collaboration between the two groups has been a long time coming: Collins and MisterWives vocalist Mandy Lee are old friends.
“”I’ve known Mitchy for…dare I say…a decade?” Lee says. “And I’m so stoked for lovelytheband and all they’ve achieved together and hope one day we can sing ‘buzz cut’ live when it’s safe.”
