Olivia Rodrigo’s “Driver’s License” Is Now A Melodic House Anthem, Thanks To Vandelux

The furthest possible genre from the emotional pop ballad that is Olivia Rodrigo’s “Driver’s License” would probably be something along the lines of house music. Well, San Francisco EDM producer “Vandelux” has transformed the heartbreak anthem into a four-on-the-floor dance track – and it works

From Vancouver, Canada, Vandelux is the alter ego of Evan White – a multi-instrumentalist/producer who accumulated some substantial popularity with the release of a few bootleg remixes back in 2016. Having composed the theme song for the AMC TV series “Dietland”, Evan is no newcomer to success in the music business, and has gotten the attention of artists like THEY., Jurassic 5, and NomBe.

White’s “Driver’s License” remix spent a couple weeks in the #2 position on the Hype Machine charts and now has over 10,000 plays on SoundCloud. Although it didn’t achieve any outreach to mainstream audiences, fans of both Olivia Rodrigo and electronic music will get a kick out of listening (or dancing) to Vandelux’s progressive twist on the tune. Although it is a remix, Rodrigo’s song structure remains the same; Vandelux simply provides the house drums and the hard hitting bass synth that stands out so well during the off-beats. It finally evolves into a euphoric melodic house jam, characterized by side-chained poly synths and elevated by Rodrigo’s striking outro vocals.
