SAVAGE X FENTY VOL. 2: The Performances Emphasized the Essence of Savage
The second annual SAVAGEXFENTY Fashion Show was nothing less than a lively experience.
Rihanna, fashion, and music mogul is an international name as she changes the face of the standard of beauty. No longer succumbing to Westernized standards, her inclusivity through her brands has left her fans praising her where she stands.
And this year’s fashion show was no different. But because of the heightened pandemic, most questioned how the mogul would put on her annual fashion show. Nevertheless, when Rihanna finds the will there will always be a way.
She made a statement last year putting on the fashion show of the year, having performances from Migos to Halsey. But Rihanna also made her tiny debut doing her own dance performance.
In Vol. 2 Rihanna made sure to outdo the last one. She had more celebrities, more performances, and more scenery. ROSALÍA started off the performances singing her hit single, Relacion.
It was a poetic display, with the background of dancers and the display of lights it echoed the essence of what it means to be Savage. Singing in complete Spanish it brought her background dancers to life, while maintaining the focus on the music.
But what was a little disheartening was that her interaction with the camera felt somewhat forced, trying to live up to the expectations of virtual performances. But it was still a lively performance!
As the music carried the show, each song was individually picked to frame the narrative. From Kendrick to Jill Scott the music eloquently moved the fashion show forward.
Ella Mai also made an appearance along with DJ Mustard and Roddy Rich. It was a soft transfer in between though, with high energy jolted the ambiance of the show. This was Mai’s first performance of her newest single, “Not Another Love Song.” And she didn’t disappoint, as she hit every verse!
Rich performed the hit song “High Fashion” alongside Mustard. Which echoed of the show, it wasn’t surprising his performance skills are unmatched. It felt as if you were in the room with him, dancing along.
But the performance that stole the show was Miguel. He was accompanied by his wife, Nazanin Mandi, who made a mark. His acoustic performance of Adorn, just left us wanting more. And how the couple vibed off of each other, made it that much better.
But what finished out the show was a performance from the mogul, Travis Scott. He closed out the show performing “WHITE TEE” with Young Thug. It could captivate whoever was watching because of how visually sound it was. Using nothing but minor props, a moving forklift, and a large scream behind him.
The graphics, color, and ambiance all created the perfect performance. But it’s the energy that he brought to the show that encompassed the energy Rihanna framed the show around, effortlessly savage.
