Norwegian-American Indie artist Okay Kaya, signed to Jagjaguwar, just released her most recent project, Surviving Is The New Living,
Coming off her early 2020 release, Watch This Liquid Pour Itself, this collection of songs functions mainly as a quarantine update on existence for the young artist.
Even with very little promo, this record expands upon the minimal, less is more style employed by Okay Kaya historically in the past. Fans of alt-R&B, bedroom pop, and lo-fi will feel at home with this release.
Throughout, Kaya’s voice takes the main focus, with instrumentals that exist like ghosts hovering on the outside of a wood cabin. She laments on boredom, unassumingly ponders time, croons about sleeplessness, and expresses thoughts about past relationships and self that could only be conceived alone in the late night hours of a quarantine.
