Need to Know – Redveil
With a sound that mimics the inventive, authentic soul sampled beats and thought-provoking bars of artists like Earl Sweatshirt, Joey Bada$$, and MAVI, Redveil is a prodigious MC hailing from Prince George County, Maryland.
At just 16 years old, Redveil has already released several projects, with his best and most promising to date dropping earlier this year in Niagara. With a unique perspective on the world and consistent delivery, Niagara is an airtight, 10 track project that shows a raw, intelligent, and unapologetic MC wise well beyond his years.
Redveil gained attention earlier this year after a controversial review from polarizing internet music critic, Anthony Fantano of The Needle Drop. While reviewing music on one of his streams, Fantano skipped one of Redveil’s tracks and proceeded to trash it based on the limited part he actually listened to.
Fans clapped back at his unwillingness to give the rapper a chance, prompting Fantano to engage in petty Twitter feuds than actually explain his take. Redveil has since noted that he feels Fantano acted weird throughout the ordeal and agrees that his song wasn’t given a chance.
let me give yall some context: this entire stream where he listening to niggas music hes refusing to play shit that he doesn't like (until he gets to me) where he feels the need to rant abt the shit before he even plays it and overall more disrespectful than that entire stream— redveil (@redveil) August 29, 2020
Redveil’s throwback style and complex instrumentals pair excellently with his beautiful wordplay and socially conscious bars. With an extremely well-polished pen and exceptional ear for beats, it’d be disrespectful to call him a “kid” or a “rookie” in rap. Redveil’s talent at such a young age is almost unheard of, putting him in the upper echelon of youthful MC’s to keep an eye on in the coming years.
